West Coast Wild Flower & Wine Tour 2021

Our extensive experience of hosting small groups of family or friends has influenced the planning of this itinerary. We have paid special attention to detail in terms of the route, activities, tourist sights, points of interest. We have hand picked the wine estates in the region and carefully selected the private home in Elands Bay. All to provide a relaxing, informative and entertaining 3 days private tour. We'll take care of the driving. You just need to come along for the ride!

Detailed Itinerary:
DAY 1 Friday

Depart Cape Town at 08h00. Pickup arrangements to be discussed individually.
Travel along R27 following the coast for an hour to Tienie Versveld Nature Reserve for our first viewing of wildflowers.
An hour and a half down the N7 we travel to De Tol Farm Deli for a deli style meal (own account). You have the opportunity (lockdown permitting) to try all that Piekenierskloof Wine has on offer – Piekenierskloof Tasting (any 4), Blends Tasting (4 preselected) or Six Hats Tasting (any 4) (cost included).
Our next stop is at Skimmelberg, the home of buchu and rooibos, on the doorstep of Skimmelberg Nature Reserve. Enjoy an informative private tour of the farm, Skimmelberg Nursery, the buchu distillery producing high quality buchu oil and the farm’s wormery. End the tour exploring the smells, tastes and sensations through a tea tasting and learn of the pioneering world of buchu based products (cost included).
The drive to Elands Bay is 45 minutes where you will settle into a private home with exclusive use for 2 nights. A home cooked meal prepared from local sourced fresh produce will be served. All you have to do is unwind, enjoy the sounds of waves crashing on the beach and watch the sunset over the ocean.

DAY 2 Saturday
Following an inhouse continental style breakfast we depart at 07h00. The drive ahead is long but very scenic and well worth the travel. Vanrhyn’s Pass has us crossing over into the Northern Cape. Situated on the Doorn River is the 90m Nieuwoudtville waterfall where we will stop to admire the impressive views of the gorge.
A short drive further down the road and we stop at a quiver tree forest - the largest in the world and the southernmost concentration of Quiver Trees in South Africa.
Having marveled at the extent of the Kookerboomwoud, we head back towards Nieuwoudtville to Hantam National Botanical Gardens. The Garden comprises a vast area of over 6000 ha which includes representative patches of Nieuwoudtville Shale Renosterveld, Nieuwoudtville-Roggeveld Dolorite Renosterveld and Hantam Succulent Karoo. You will experience a private tour with a botanical guide for 1 hour (cost included).
On our way from Nieuwoudtville and Vanrhynsdorp on the R27 we stop at the Bagdad Café restaurant, well-known for its extraordinary large pancakes and real food for the soul - Boere kos (own account).
Our final stop for the day is at Teubes Family Wines in Vredendal (lockdown permitting). Three generations of wine making at Teubes Family Wines, winner of numerous Veritas and National wine awards, proudly offers an outstanding selection of quality wines.  They offer Malkopbaai, Teubes, Sir Lambert, Low KJ, Zero Sulphur and Karroobossie sparkling wine range. Enjoy a tasting of 4 or 6 from their range (cost included).
An hour later you are back in Elands Bay, relaxing on the patio or strolling on the beach while your dinner for the evening is prepared from local sourced fresh produce.

DAY 3 Sunday
Having enjoyed a full English style breakfast we depart Elands Bay at 08h30 on our final day. The coastal drive towards Velddrift offers an opportunity to see flowers enroute.
At Langebaan we enter the West Coast National Park for the flower experience of a lifetime. West Coast National Park boasts a popular and colourful flower season annually between August and September. Depending on the amount of rainfall in the preceding winter months, the West Coast Flower Season is fast becoming rival competition to other popular flower viewing sites in the country. During these two months visitors to the park will see a wide variety of flowers on display, from daisies to bulbs etc. Large areas of flowers can be seen in the Seeberg\Mooimaak and Postberg areas. The Postberg section of the park is only open during flower season and so this is where we will spend quite a bit of time (cost included).
We cannot think of a more appropriate place to enjoy a light picnic lunch and know just the spot with a spectacular views (cost included).
We will exit at the southern side of the park for our next stop at Groote Post Vineyards. Groote Post is a historic 18th century farm where winemaking traditions have been revived by the Pentz family. You may be familiar with The Old Man’s Blend; produced to meet the standards of the old man, Peter Pentz. Here you can enjoy a wine tasting (lockdown permitting) of 5 pre-selected award-winning wines, 2 white, 2 red and their Methode Cap Classic - MCC - (cost included).
The final leg of about an hour returns us to Cape Town where you will be returned to your agreed destination.

Due to the exclusive nature of this tour, to secure your booking, full payment is required, a couple of days prior to departure.
